Medical Education Alternatives After NEET

At present, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has temporarily stayed the result of NEET UG 2025, but even after this, the candidates who gave NEET this year are waiting for the answer key to be released by NTA. The main reason behind this is that more than 20 lakh candidates appearing in NEET UG want to assess their exam performance to clarify their position regarding admission to medical colleges this year.

In fact, due to increasing competition, getting a better ranking in NEET is becoming very challenging every year. The seats in medical colleges are decreasing, while the competition in NEET is increasing continuously in proportion to that. In such a situation, many candidates cannot get admission in medical colleges even after appearing in NEET.

Keeping this in mind, in today’s episode, let us discuss how students can make their careers in the medical sector after 12th grade, even if they get low marks in NEET UG or even without NEET.

Only 5 Percent of Candidates Get Admission, 95 Percent Out

First, let us understand the arithmetic of the number of candidates appearing in NEET UG and the number of seats in medical colleges. Many candidates’ dreams of becoming doctors are shattered yearly after the NEET UG results. The main reason behind this is the limited seats in medical colleges.

Every year, more than one lakh seats for MBBS, BDS, and other doctors are admitted to various medical colleges in the country. In contrast, every year, the number of candidates appearing in NEET is more than 20 lakh. This year, 20.8 lakh candidates have appeared in NEET.

On the other hand, there are about one lakh seats for doctors in medical colleges. In such a situation, only about 5 per cent of the candidates’ dream of becoming doctors will be realised this year, and 95 per cent of the candidates will be out.

Is A Career In Medical Possible Without the NEET?

The question is whether candidates who get fewer marks in NEET or even without NEET can pursue careers in the medical sector. The answer is yes. Of course, MBBS, BDS and other medical studies cannot be done without NEET, but a career can be made in the medical sector after 12th without NEET. For this, students can be admitted to paramedical courses.

Which Paramedical Courses

With the rapidly expanding health sector in the country, the demand for paramedical staff is also increasing. If we understand the role of paramedical staff, then in many ways, even medical studies are incomplete without paramedical staff. In paramedical courses, students are skilled at helping medical professionals during patient treatment, diagnosis, and management.

Regarding paramedical courses, students who have passed 12th grade with biology, chemistry, and physics subjects can take many paramedical courses at graduation and diploma levels. These include a BSc in medical laboratory, a diploma in radiology and imaging technology, anaesthesia, and dialysis technology-related degrees and diploma courses, which can be done without NEET. Many universities conduct entrance exams for admission in these paramedical courses, while in many places, admission is given on a first-come, first-served basis.
